The iconic Dakota Apartments on Central Park West in New York City is home to this luxurious kitchen renovation. Architect Henry Janeway Hardenbergh designed and constructed The Dakota Building between 1880 and 1884. The space aims to exude timeless elegance and sophistication. We used wood matching the original Co-op apartment’s millwork to create a large floor-to-ceiling cabinet. To keep the kitchen renovation light feeling, though, we used white cabinetry for the rest. The cabinetry shares style and detailing which makes it cohesive. A floor by modern Italian architect, Carlo Scarpa, served as the model for the bespoke marble floor. It introduces a touch of modernity to the kitchen while honoring the mosaic tradition that is prominent in the Dakota building. The cabinetry in the small renovated bathroom is designed to echo the high Gothic style of the building while exuding a contemporary feel.
