Mark Holmquist is a licensed architect in NYC known for integrating architecture and interior design with artistic precision. As an experienced architect in NYC, he draws on a foundation in sculpture, painting, and furniture design. Holmquist approaches each project with an interdisciplinary lens and a deep respect for place. His work spans Park Avenue co-ops and public interiors like New York City Hall and the NYC Marriage Bureau.

Holmquist has collaborated with many of New York’s most respected architects and designers. Rather than follow a fixed style, he responds to each site with intuition and clarity. He considers light, history, and human use in every decision. His designs reflect the lives of those who inhabit them.

He studied Design of the Environment at the University of Pennsylvania. The program focused on how space, form, and material express human values. He later earned a Master of Architecture at Penn and received the Dale Fellowship to study in Rome. There, he explored historic urban form and deepened his site-specific approach.

Holmquist’s experience spans both private homes and public commissions. Early in his career, he worked with architect Romaldo Giurgola on the Foreign Services Training Institute. Later, AD100 designer Jamie Drake selected him to lead design projects under Mayor Bloomberg. These included New York City Hall, the NYC Marriage Bureau, and Gracie Mansion–the mayor’s official residence.

His residential work includes some of New York’s most iconic buildings, such as 720 Park Avenue, 770 Park Avenue, and The Dakota.
